Ursula Biemann Visit – 4/3-4/5

We invite you to join us the week of April 3 for lecture-performances and film screenings by artist Ursula Biemann. The first of three events will kick off at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 3, in the Joukowsky Forum: 
 
Ms. Biemann will introduce “Black Sea Files” (2005), a territorial research on the Caspian oil geography and the gigantic new pipeline that pumps crude oil through the Caucasus. She will also screen part 3 of of the more recent “Egyptian Chemistry” (2012), examining the River Nile and its hydro-engineering.

About: 
Ursula Biemann (born 1955, Zurich, Switzerland) is an artist, writer, and video essayist. Her artistic practice is strongly research oriented and involves fieldwork in remote locations where she investigates climate change and the ecologies of oil and water. She works the findings into multi-layered videos by connecting the micropolitics on the ground with a theoretical macro level, proposing a reflexive exploration of planetary and videographic organization.

President Trump’s executive order on refugees and immigrants has profound and long-term global implications, not just to Muslim majority societies and U.S. social and political life. The purpose of this teach-in is to inform students and colleagues about the international legal dimension, to humanize the impact of the ban on people all over the world, and to think comparatively across the Middle East, South Asia, and Latin America..
